We are virtually alive in today’s world.
We take pictures of sunsets instead of actually watching them with our very own eyes.
We listen to recordings of rain sounds on our headphones to calm ourselves down while it’s actually raining outside.
We watch concerts through our small screens instead of just letting ourselves enjoy the beauty of the music and the show on stage.
We go to events and experiences that we don’t really want to with the fear of missing out (FOMO) and pleasing others instead of doing things that would make us happy in reality.
We identify ourselves with the music we listen to and seek inclusion through that, instead of enjoying the music for our personal pleasure.
We check in everywhere we go to show others how much we travel, instead of just enjoying the fascination of being somewhere new that we’ve never been before.
We pose in front of beautiful landmarks, monuments, and architecture to prove that we were there, instead of just being there.
We take pictures of our food, delaying that first delicious bite.
We record videos of ourselves training at the gym to show others how strong we are, although in reality, we train for ourselves in order to get healthy and gain confidence.
We measure our talent and value by the likes on social media, instead of being our authentic selves and producing things that totally reflect our views and emotions.
We are too obsessed with our looks and seeking approval by posting selfies every day, instead of looking inward and seeking ways for our personal and emotional development.
In our lives, sharing the moment has sadly become much more important than actually living it. The only person you have to prove your joy and happiness to, should be YOU.
Now I understand better why the word “present” refers to “now”.
Now’s the best present you can give to yourself to be happy and content by living in the moment. It’s the only period of time that you have control over; not the past, not the future.
Now is the present of life. Stay in it, enjoy, and live it to the fullest.
